Add to that the 15th century buildings in which the museum is located and we can guarantee an interesting night! Are you brave enough to uncover some of the layers of Yesterday's World?
History
89 and 90 High Street, Battle was originally one building that was constructed in 1410 for the accountant of Battle Abbey. It is not all together clear when the building was split in to two, but since it stopped being a private residence it has had many uses including a boarding school and a dentist. 89 became 'Yesterday's World' in 1986, with 90 being purchased in 1992.
The buildings have had too many residents to list, but much of its history can be established from its construction. Originally constructed as a Wealden hall house, the property would have featured a grand open hall. The cellars beneath the property are likely to relate to an earlier property, although it is impossible to accurately date them.
Add all of this to the location of the building, being very close to the site of the Battle of Hastings, there is no end of history!
